Peterbilt has announced the introduction of its cutting-edge Digital Vision System-Mirrors (DVS-M) in the 579 and 567 truck models. This innovative feature is designed to maximize driver visibility and safety, setting a new standard in the trucking industry.

High-Tech Cameras for Superior Visibility

The DVS-M system incorporates a total of three High Dynamic Range (HDR) cameras. One camera is integrated into the driver-side mirror head, while two cameras are embedded in the passenger-side mirror head. These cameras are equipped with hydrophobic lenses, which repel water, ice, and dust, ensuring clear visibility even in harsh weather conditions.

Enhanced Safety Features

Peterbilt’s DVS-M significantly improves driver safety by addressing common visibility challenges. The system reduces blind spots, provides clear views during inclement weather, and minimizes headlight glare at night. These features collectively contribute to a safer driving experience.

User-Friendly Monitors and Controls

The DVS-M is designed with the driver’s convenience in mind. It features a joystick interface for camera control, with the footage displayed on two large, high-definition interior monitors. The driver-side monitor measures 12.3 inches, while the passenger-side monitor is 15 inches. Both monitors are strategically positioned on the A-pillars to prevent obstruction of the windshield and maintain the use of standard glass.

Versatile Viewing Options

Drivers can choose from three different viewing layouts on the monitors: Traditional, Panoramic, or Expanded. Additionally, the system offers vision enhancements such as automatic trailer tracking and panning, infrared night vision, and clear visibility in inclement weather, ensuring optimal sightlines in various driving conditions.

Fuel Efficiency and Practicality

The DVS-M also contributes to fuel efficiency, offering up to 1.5% savings due to the smaller side mirror design. Another practical feature is the automatic camera defrost function, which activates when temperatures drop below 43°F, maintaining clear visibility in cold weather.

Commitment to Innovation and Safety

Jake Montero, Peterbilt’s assistant general manager of sales and marketing, emphasized the company’s dedication to performance and safety. "Peterbilt sets new standards for performance and safety with purposeful innovation. Our Digital Vision System-Mirrors aligns with this commitment and reflects how we successfully leverage leading technology to enhance our products and elevate the overall driving experience for our customers," he said.

Final Words: Peterbilt’s introduction of the DVS-M in the 579 and 567 models marks a significant advancement in truck technology, enhancing safety, visibility, and fuel efficiency. This intuitive digital solution is a testament to Peterbilt’s ongoing commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve the driving experience for their customers. The DVS-M is set to redefine industry standards and provide truck drivers with an unparalleled level of safety and convenience on the road.
