TIP Group launches mechanic training academy in Canada

The TIP Group will establish a new trailer mechanics academy in six countries, including Canada.

According to the company, the Canadian academy will be headquartered in the Greater Toronto Area, with comparable initiatives in Denmark, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Germany. According to the company, it will be the first program of its kind, allowing apprentices to become TIP-certified trailer mechanics in nine months, as opposed to the typical three to four years for heavy vehicle certification.

The company states that trainees will receive a full salary and benefits package upon joining.

TIP Group stated in a press release that the TIP Mechanic Academy is accessible to individuals pursuing a technician career in the transportation industry. "The program covers a variety of subjects, including trailer maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and safety. Trainees will receive hands-on instruction in state-of-the-art facilities while working on actual vehicles under the supervision of seasoned mechanic instructors."

The program will include instructor-led, e-learning, and hands-on training and will be limited to eight to twelve trainees per class. Upon completion of the curriculum, there will be a global team competition.

"Mechanics are the unsung heroes of our industry, and we rely on them to serve our customers and keep their fleets on the road," said Hiske Damhuis, the chief human resource officer. "The TIP Mechanic Academy is a fantastic opportunity to attract new talent, and the accelerated learning ensures that trainees can apply their new skills in just nine months and are compensated as if they had completed a four-year degree program."
