AMTA receives funds to promote hydrogen in trucking

Federal funding has been provided to the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) to increase chances for trucking companies to adopt hydrogen-fueled cars.

A $9.74 million investment from PrairiesCan will go to the AMTA and the University of Alberta, supporting more than 1,600 employments and establishing Alberta as a leader in the hydrogen industry. The AMTA will also get $3 million.

The AMTA's share will assist product testing that shows how hydrogen can power large vehicles in the real world. The commissioning of a pilot hydrogen fueling station in Calgary is one of the main activities. Other important ones include purchasing hydrogen fueling equipment in Calgary and Edmonton to carry out pilot projects involving hydrogen fuel for trucks, buses, and heavy equipment. Fleet operators will also have the chance to test the use of hydrogen fuel.

Doug Paisley, chairman of the AMTA, declared that Alberta is "well-positioned to become a global hydrogen leader, with the proper resources and skills." "This investment will make use of these resources to enable the switch to this low-carbon fuel in the commercial transportation industry. AMTA is eager to guide the future.
